With the introduction of the internet, and especially the number of blogs nowadays, many of the businesses out there are looking for new ways to get their audience’s attention. Quite often clients ask us how can you get more visitors to your website with minimal work done?

Answering that question is not easy. In order to get your business noticed you generally need to spend  a considerable amount of time and money. Yet,  if you don’t have a big budget to invest in marketing, but you have the patience and some writing skills here is how you can get your business noticed with five easy steps.

Of course, there are many additional options that could be explored, but for right now we are going to stick with five low budget easy steps that any business owner can implement.

1. Simplicity

For example, if you take a look around the Shero Designs website we have tried to describe ourselves in the most concise way possible. We could have built our website all flashy and use some crazy graphics which Beth or Caitlin can very easily create. We could also have written long paragraphs about what we do and who we are. We didn’t do neither, but we chose to stay simple.

The way how you present your information on your website is key to attracting and having your visitors return. That being said, information needs to be presented concisely and to the point. Time is money for most people. With out too many illustrations, be eloquent when you have to, and sincerely presented, the information your website provides will be appreciated by your visitors, and therefore always having them come back for more.

2. Get Personal

The second point that we strongly recommend is to get personal with what you do. If you want to stand out, you should add your  picture to your website and develop an image that demonstrates expertise in what you do. While not everyone would agree with us, we use our pictures here on our website, from our team, to our flickr pictures of our every day life. To get personal we also use social networking.

By adding all the above on your website, potential future clients will see you again and again when they visit your website. After a couple of visits they familiarise with you and think of you as people they know. That’s why getting personal with your website is very important. Is all about trust. What applies to our business applies to yours too.

3. Customer Service

This point might not be entirely linked to your website being noticed, but still it can play an important role on spreading the word. Whether you have an online business or not, it is very important that you excel at customer service. Having a long term background in the restaurant industry myself I can certainly state that customer service is vital to your business’s performance.

Before starting the business I did a lots of research. The conclusion was that customer service is one of the departments that many businesses neglect. Actually, one time I called my grandma and asked her how she would like to be treated when she goes somewhere. Sure enough she came up with a list of things on how she prefers to be treated, where she likes to go and why or why not. Grandma taught me that good old customer service is missing nowadays.

Yes then, it is important that even if you get the most stupid question, in person, by phone or by email, take the time to answer it. By doing so you are educating your customers and your courtesy will not go unnoticed. In the end, rewarded behaviour is more likely to be repeated. People will remember your excellent customer skills, even from a simple email you wrote back to that customer who had that outrageous question.

4. Ever Changing Content

It is vital to have people return to your website again and again. Research indicates that people will feel more comfortable with your company and purchase products or services only after having visited a website seven times previously. How can you have people return?

The answer is that content needs to be ever changing and updated continuously. No one will come back to see a website’s static pages that have been the same since it was last designed and launched three years ago. Provide visitors with industry related information, educate them, provide a video, a survey, etc. Guaranteed your visitors  will be looking forward to your next posting and eventually become your next customers too.

5. Monitor How Your Visitors Use Your Website

In order to meet  your visitor’s needs you have to know how they use your website. This can be done with Google Analytics, a free service that Google offers and can save tons of money wasted on unproductive marketing techniques. From our experience, there are a lots of business owners that don’t have analytics on their websites or haven’t even heard of such a thing.

By monitoring what your visitors like best not only improves your website’s effectiveness, but it also meets their needs better. If you don’t know how to  install Google Analytics yourself you should ask somebody to help you out.  By keeping a close eye on the data that your analytics provide you can check what country/area your visitors are coming from, what search terms they used, what other sites are linking to you, what browser/operating system they have and even for how long they stayed on each page. A thorough analysis of the analytics data will substantially provide the answers that you need to get noticed.  All of it for free and available to make the necessary changes accordingly.

Concluding, when wondering why your website is not getting enough traffic we recommend that first focus on the way information is presented on your website. Be as concise as possible and to the point. Get personal because everyone would like to  get to know the people we trust our hard earned dollar.  Don’t forget, first impression counts. Your clients will remember their first impression of you. Whether in person or through the web, your customer service skills will get your website noticed.

Take the time to keep your website up to date with fresh and ever changing information. If there’s not enough time use a blog, which is practicable and fast. Last but not least, Google Analytics is a great resource that can definitely  help a website get noticed because you will know what your visitors like the most.
